The game is confirmed for a digital release. No launch date for Shakedown Hawaii was given. The game had a long development history, going all the way back to 2002 as a demake project of Grand Theft Auto III (2001) on homebrew NES hardware. It first released in October 2012 and made its way to almost every available platform since then, even as a physical MS-DOScopy. The independent studio’s Retro City Rampage featured 8-bit graphics as a homage to Grand Theft Auto, filled with many references to retro games and pop culture of the ’80s and early ’90s. These issues lead to an unpredictable timeframe for that version’s possible release. An Xbox One version wasn’t announced, which Provinciano saidwould take longer to port the game to and receive platform certification on an all-new console. Shakedown Hawaii will also release on PC through Steam and unannounced Nintendo platforms, although Provinciano is targeting a 3DS release. While it won’t have as many game and pop culture references, part of its reveal does pay homage to Max Payne 3 (2012).īoth versions of Shakedown Hawaii will be playable at the PlayStation Experience Event in San Francisco on Dec. The gameplay still features open world destruction and story missions from a top-down perspective like in Retro City Rampage. Shakedown Hawaii will have a more serious tone and less game references like in Retro City Rampage, according to Provinciano. The game features 16-bit visuals in a more detailed, larger open world than the last game. The series’ main character named “The Player” returns to the criminal world out of retirement to take back his empire. If you’re a fan of 16-bit games, Grand Theft Auto, Hotline Miami, or Retro City Rampage, there’s a good chance that Shakedown: Hawaii is right up your alley. Shakedown Hawaii follows the events of the 8-bit styled Retro City Rampage, set 30 years after its story. The Vancouver based-developer revealed the follow-up to its first release Retro City Rampage on the PlayStation Blog on Tuesday. The next game from Brian Provinciano and his company Vblank Entertainment is Shakedown Hawaii, confirmed for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
